The tree of wisdom
In this week’s extract Master of Yoga Dr. George King shares with us more fascinating information about other planes of existence on Earth (sometimes referred to as “Terra”). “There comes a stage when the desire to break forever the bars of selfishness dawns—Service is performed.”
“Man goes on and on through this physical life being a very ordinary, selfish kind of individual, caring only for his own position and so on, until suddenly it dawns on him, “What good is all this?” And he begins to stop it. He begins to search for the deeper truths and the higher truths and then he really starts his journey back, out of gross materialism.
“He may not realize it at the time, but this change is gradually going on within him, and the growth is slow. But if he keeps on, it’s nevertheless sure, you see, that’s the important thing.
“Oh, I always come back to the business of the tree. Might take hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years to grow a tree from a tiny little seed, but the tree can’t grow until the seed is planted. But when the seed is planted, the tree will grow—come drought, winter or spring, it still keeps on growing slowly—even if it rests for a time, which it does. Goes through a kind of a death and then it comes to life again and goes through a kind of a death again and comes to life again, growing, expanding all the time. A human is rather like that.
“And suddenly man begins to realize that selfishness must be killed, must be transmuted into something higher and he begins to search around and find out the hidden things.
“There’s some kind of a conscience which goads him onwards, and it tells him, “Look, you can do better in life. There’s an awful lot more you can do. Your job doesn’t count very much, as long as you have what you need, that’s all you need bother about. But you need wisdom more than any other thing.” And he begins searching around and looking around. And he will find what he wants to find.
“There comes a following stage when Enlightenment, like a Sun, doth flood the server with its golden light—Wisdom dawns.”
“He goes on serving in hundreds of ways and learning in hundreds of ways, having hundreds and hundreds of different experiences and Wisdom begins to take root within him and grow into a strong tree, everlastingly strong.
