“I think great men have been totally destroyed by their jealousy, and been made from men into monsters because of it.

“It’s one of the most important attributes — important negative attributes — to transmute.

“We must sooner or later transmute it.

“We cannot — ever — categorical statement – we’re not guessing — we cannot ever aspire to any degree of enlightenment whatsoever — any degree of enlightenment — while we have jealousy of anything or anyone else within our hearts.

“It holds you up, and it can hold you back, and it can do something worse than that: it can bring you down from whatever heights may you attain — and they won’t be very big heights, but from whatever heights you may attain — it can bring you down and keep you down in its own prison.

“Jealousy forms a vicious circle and it imprisons you, or your mind, within that circle.

“If you recognize it first, because you can’t do anything about it until you’re honest enough to recognize it within yourself. When you recognize it within yourself you don’t have to declare the recognition to any other man except yourself.

“When you recognize it within yourself, you can transmute it, and then you have spiritual drive.

“You can transmute this negative energy into a positive, dynamic, pushing power and go onwards.

“I’ll repeat: I think the surest way to do it is to be expert in everything, and you will not need — jealousy will be foreign, completely foreign to your nature.

“You might say, ‘That’s impossible for me to be expert in all things.’ It is impossible for us all to be expert in all things in any one, two, a hundred lives, but we can start it.”
