“Whether we like it or not—and some of us may not like it—we are our brother’s keeper, and we all are responsible for the world as a whole, and we can all do much for the world as a whole. If by no other thing, then we can pray, and prayer is a wonderful method of all round development: spiritual development, psychic development, mental development; it’s a good concentrative exercise is prayer.

“Get a prayer that you like and repeat it for eight hours a day, and you’ll see that you can concentrate.

“When I first started yoga – when I first started Yoga – I used to repeat an ancient sanskrit mantra for eight and nine hours per day, to the total exclusion of all other things.

“This did many things. It taught me to concentrate and many other things. You see, these are the ways. Not easy path I’m afraid. It’s not a particularly quick path but it’s a balanced path of complete development.

“You know, you can develop your psychic centers and become quite a psychic and yet be absolutely undeveloped in all other ways spiritually. Well, what good is psychic development unless you’re developed spiritually? No good at all. You will fall as many people have.

“Psychic development in itself, by the way, is not a mark of spirituality. You can get a person here who knows nothing about psychic development but totally giving their whole lives for the benefit of others and another person here who is an expert psychic who doesn’t care at all about others.

“Which is the better person? This person every time is the better person, there’s no doubt about that. There is no doubt about it.”
