A Vedantin’s perspective on The Twelve Blessings (interview)

by Jun 14, 2015

Last week I talked with Andre Van Zyl, a lay-member of The Vedanta Society of Southern California.

He gave me his Vedantic perspective of The Twelve Blessings, the profound spiritual truths given by the Cosmic Avatar, the Master Jesus, through Master of Yoga Dr. George King in 1958, two thousand years after he had appeared on Earth.

Our conversation was a beautiful affirmation of the perspective on Cosmic Oneness we both share. And it was not the only one we did share…

Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the Oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.

The unity of existence is one of the great themes of Vedanta and an essential pillar of its philosophy. The Bhagavad Gita speaks of all manifest matter being the body of God. There is nothing separate from God in the great Cosmic Unity – The Absolute.

There are few descriptions of The Absolute as profound as that given by Jesus in 1958. In the words of Dr. King, The Twelve Blessings give to us a much deeper appreciation of the “the everlasting Reality of the One Supreme Creative Intelligence behind all manifestation.” Indeed this is so.

“BLESSED IS THE ABSOLUTE – IN ALL THE WONDROUS GLORY OF ITS MANIFESTATION. IN ALL THE UNCHANGEABILITY OF ITS REALITY. IN ALL THE COMPLETE IMMOBILITY OF ITS SILENT SELF … THERE IS NOTHING IN ALL THE WORLDS OUTSIDE OF – THIS! FOR THIS IS – ALL IN ALL – AND ALL IN ALL – THAT!” – The Master Jesus, from The Twelfth Blessing

Both teachings call us towards an understanding that our real nature is divine and that God-realization is our birthright.

Both teachings call us to embrace the same self that is within me as it is also within you; and to realize and practice this in our love for all.

We shared the conviction that spiritual truth is eternal and universal, and that the true essence of all genuine religion is God realization – or the manifestation of our divinity. Of course the Master Ramakrishna is well known for having propounded the ideal of the harmony of religions, as have many other genuine teachers.

We shared the appreciation that throughout the ages, spiritual renewal has come to humanity through God manifesting in human form (Avatars) to ignite the flame of spirituality within Man and to point the way. Dr. King says as much about the Master Jesus in his foreword to The Twelve Blessings:

“It was to bring about a Spiritual revitalisation of Earth that Jesus released His transmuting Power of pure, selfless Love during these Blessings.”

In The Twelve Blessings here then is a Cosmic Concept for a world on the eve of a new Cosmic Cycle. They are literally a Cosmic extension to the teachings this same Avatar gave to mankind at an earlier time for that age, and the essence is the self-same spiritual truth.

It is no surprise, as Andre says, that it should have come through the yogic ability of Dr. George King at this time in our present history. They are a spiritual teaching and practice for all mankind in this Aquarian Age.

Thank you to Andre Van Zyl for taking the time to share his appreciation of The Twelve Blessings with us. We invite you to leave your comments below.
