A wandering mind during a spiritual practice

Sometimes it can be difficult to detach from the day and focus our minds on a spiritual practice, such as The Twelve Blessings.

And even during such a practice, it is common for the mind to wander. You may start to think about what to have for dinner, or a work problem, or any number of items on your to-do list.

Master of Yoga, Dr. George King gave some advice on this:

“So the next time you send out power, whether it’s by The Twelve Blessings or whatever practice it is, go out of your way – this time really go out of your way – to do it properly, and don’t let silly little things interfere with it. Don’t let the fact that you’re sitting next to Mrs. Jones interfere with it, that candlesticks are shaped in a certain way… Don’t let nonsensical things like this interfere with it. These things don’t matter!”

If this happens to you, simply notice that your mind is wandering, and refocus. With regular practice, your concentrative abilities will improve.
